Ohio County Schools Can Have Chromebooks

Officials in Ohio County are looking into a 1:1 Chromebook initiative, but they are weighing the cost of repairs. Many school districts do not worry about this, so kudos to Ohio County for some forward thinking. In Monogalia County, for example, costs have been higher because of the purchase of cases for the Chromebooks. Ohio County can wait to see how those cases hold up, or they can continue to make the best choices by investing in the most innovative way to protect Chromebooks: the Cranium by Educabana.

Students hate cases. If the kids at Morgantown High School get big, cumbersome, annoying cases, those cases will be empty at every opportunity. Honestly, the Cranium can also fit on computers in soft cases, so Morgantown will be looking for something similar as Chromebooks mysteriously come to school broken. It's because students don't want the cases. They want small devices that get the job of a $1000 laptop done for less. And the students are right. Cases are awful. Any teacher who went out and got a gigantic soft cased for an old laptop knows this, but we still want to force the same thing on our students.

Ohio County Schools will make the right choice for the taxpayers and students in the end. If cases seem to be the thing, then so be it. If it's $25 a year insurance on a sub-$200 device, then I guess so. But if it's a cheap and simple permanent solution that can also be used as a personal whiteboard, then that seems like the most forward-thinking choice available.
