Luther Child Center - DBA Compass Health Assessment

This FREE website assessment is for Compass Health at http://www.compasshealth.org/. It was completed by Luthernet Website Services in order to help those who run the program see what can be done to spread their message more effectively using the internet.

Framework
This website uses ExpressionEngine, which is a content management system. The News category has fairly updated and archived content. All good here.

Mobile-Friendly
Google is not impressed with the mobile-friendliness of the Compass Health website. Here's what a mobile-friendly test reveals:
  • Clickable elements too close together
  • Viewport not set
  • Text too small to read
  • Content wider than screen
I confirmed this by going to the website on a mobile phone. It's nearly impossible to read anything beyond headings, and the tiny menu on the way top is almost not there. No menus are mobile ones, so there are links everywhere on a tiny-looking page.

Other Issues
The use of three separate menus was a cool idea before mobile devices, since you could direct users to a specific page and then have submenus that did not litter the main page. However, that system on this website is confusing on a mobile device.

The website credit goes to what appears to be an architectural firm that also does not have a mobile-friendly, albeit pretty, website at http://www.dykeman.net/. In fact, most of what is mentioned in this post would apply to Dykeman of Everett, WA. Especially their tiny little Projects page.

Besides the mobile-friendly issue, this is a pretty sound website. The problem being that since the builder of the website does not recognize the importance of being ready for mobile, it's unlikely to get a free upgrade.
