North County Test: Chromebooks or Multi-Purpose Building

It's actually really good timing that the North County Chromebook pilot comes in at the same time as the construction of the multi-purpose building. People are likely expressing opinions about both expenditures, and those people probably want assurances that the purchases make sense.

Each community has to grapple with limited resources, but when you spend a lot on a multi-purpose building, I assume you get insurance. On top of that, you probably take precautions in order to make sure it isn't vandalized or destroyed. For example, you might lock the doors when not in use or install a sprinkler system to thwart fire. Plus, there's the actual insurance policy.

Chromebooks are multi-purpose devices that work very well for students at schools. However, because they are such a bargain, they are not as rugged in all respects as larger laptops. Actually, the only place Chromebooks seem to have a significant propensity to breakage is a result of bendable screens. Like the multi-purpose building, however, this single flaw can be insured against. We're not talking about a $25 per year insurance policy that makes parents angry as yet another fee. Rather, we recommend the Cranium Chromebook Cover to do one thing: protect the flexible screen. You can add a soft case, too, but those are more expensive and bulky. The Cranium is light and strong, and as an added bonus, it's also a whiteboard. It would be akin to the sprinkler system in the multi-purpose building also serving as a floor sweeper. Ask math teachers if a whiteboard would be useful.
